Things to Leave Behind in 2024

The start of a new year is such a great time to pause and take stock of where you are, whether that means in your recovery, your career, your relationships, your health, or any other goals you have for yourself. When it comes to creating a healthy and happy relationship with food and with your body, here are a few things we suggest leaving back in the year 2023.

  • “What I eat in a day” videos. No shade to the people who enjoy making these videos or enjoy watching them, but we find that too often it results in thoughts like “Should I be having a kale smoothie in the morning too??”. Put that time and energy back into tuning into your own body and feeding it appropriately, instead of trying to figure out if you should eat like everyone else online.

  • Sharing diet tips. Diets and food rules are so out. Let’s share good food, new recipes, and favorite dinner spots instead in 2024.

  • Perfectionism. It can be so hard not to fall into the trap of perfectionism, especially when it comes to eating and exercise. The truth is there is no “perfect” diet or exercise regimen. Let’s embrace our humanness and caring for our imperfect but capable, strong, resilient, and diverse bodies in 2024.

  • Exercise as punishment. More frolicking and play in 2024! Our bodies were made to move. Let’s honor that by making sure we’re engaging in movement that is fun, enjoyable, and playful.

  • Avoiding “drinking your calories”. There’s nothing like a fun little drink to liven up your weekday. Coffee drinks with a friend, kombucha in a special glass, a matcha latte, an ice cold lemonade or a warm hot chocolate- the options are endless. Don’t let diet culture limit you to water or zero-cal drinks.

  • Commenting on others’ bodies and bashing your own. Speaking kindly to yourself is in in 2024. And so is focusing on things other than appearance or body size. Tell someone close to you that you love them, just because. Or compliment someone on something totally unrelated to their appearance, like something they accomplished recently or their great sense of humor.

Wishing you a wonderful start to 2024!
